April 27, 2013 --- Canton, N.Y. --- 9am to 5 pm

Thank you for your participation or interest in the Local Living Festival 2011! The next Festival is scheduled for April 27, 2013.

Local Living Festival - 2013

The 2011 event was held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm Route 68, Canton, NY

A Celebration of Old and New Skills

Information courtesy of .. Chelle Lindahl & Melinda Ely, Co-Coordinators

In 2010 we had 49 workshops on topics involving simple living and rural skills-building as well as 63 exhibitors of everything from agricultural products (including a Farmer's Market) to renewable energy, line-trapping, wood splitting, making cheese, baking bread, raising chickens, stone masonry, concrete work and so on.

Our motto is Sharing Knowledge from the Past ~ Building Skills for the Future.

1200 people attended in one day, and in 2011we will expand to 2 days and 75 workshops plus even more vendors. Last year Whinnee Weiners was our main food vendor and we outfitted them with locally raised beef and potatoes for the fries, because that is what we are promoting -- locally grown food, home-made energy, country skills, and community efforts.

Besides the Festival, our year-round workshops feature neighbors teaching neighbors about skills we are interested in learning, not so much from the "experts" (though we have some of those too) but from someone just like them that tried it and learned a few things they can share. We just had a Bicycle Maintenance workshop and next up is Home Composting for the Yard and Garden.

May 26 - 27, 2012 ---Cumberland, Ontario, Canada.

This is the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum Fair and Spring Crank-up.

WOW !!! What a great show at the Cumberland Museum Grounds.

The two-day event features antique machinery, working steam and gas powered engines, model train demonstrations and vintage cars, as well as live music and children’s activities. This is a great family friendly community event supported by volunteers and local businesses.

Lighting a spark to Ottawa’s rural heritage! This charming museum depicts rural life during the 1920s and 1930s in a village setting.

As part of your visit, stop at the General Store, the one-room schoolhouse and see some of our antique vehicles at the unique village garage. Observe some of the traditional trades that ushered in industrialization and see what effect popular culture had on rural life. Families will have fun riding on the tractor-pulled wagon ride and visiting the farm animals. Listen in to the audio guide as a doctor from the past visits the museum village for the first time.

The Ottawa Valley Live Steamers and Model Engineers are on site every other Sunday to give rides on their model trains. Call ahead to avoid disappointment.

Fees: Adult: $7 - Student: $5 - Senior: $5 - Family: $18 - Season family pass: $35 - Extra fees may be charged for some activities.
