The Maynard a.k.a. (Nelson Brother Engines) 12/07

Well, the good news on this engine is its unstuck. That's a story in itself, got the head off, looked rusty so sprayed and removed the gunk and rust. I figured I'd give her a wack with a 2x4 and hammer....didn't budge so I came over to the rear to spray it, leaned on the flywheels and the piston rolled out. Great news....then I looked under it...and waaaaaaaaa found a giant frost crack in the shape of an H. Lucky it only damaged the outer jacket, no damage to the bore and the bore looks great.

Now the Head has a crack also, I have brazed all cracks shut and I am going fill them up with Jb Weld for cosmetics. The Head is in need of a Machine shop. The head needs the seats ground, Valve guides sleeved and a new exhaust valve made. There is nothing left to the stem. I have located, but not purchased yet, an original mag bracket for this engine that uses a Wico EK mag, or we can run this engine off a homemade set of points on the back side of the cam gear.

The good news on this engine is that the bearings are all good and the piston and rings are in great shape. Mixer has some issues but nothing major and it will run with it as is. I have found the H.P. on it, it is about a 4 1/2 - 5 Hp engine.
