Hercules Gas Engine Co.
5 Horse Power
This five horsepower Hercules hit and miss engine was donated by Marty Osuch and restored by Paul Shirley. Both Marty and Paul are former Presidents of the St. Law. Gas and Steam Engine Assoccation.
Hercules Buggy Company of Evansville, Indiana, entered the gas engine business in 1912. Through the purchase of Holm Machine Company of Sparta, Michigan, Hercules began the business with a proven design. Except for the physical size, the entire Hercules line was virtually identical. All except the 1-1/2 horsepower model were available either as gasoline or kerosene engines.
Hand trucks were available for the three and five horsepower engines for an additional $8.00 over the base price.
