NORTH COUNTRY EQUINE EXPO NOW AT POWER MUSUM

MADRID, After a successful inaugural event in 2016, the Pro-Equine Group will again host the North Country Equine Expo on Oct. 7, this time at the St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum

PROCEEDS WILL CONTINUE TO BE DONATED TO THE ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY CANCER FUND and this year, the expo will be dedicated to the late Samantha M. (Sami) Curtis, who was a key contributor to the cancer fund and a devout horse enthusiast.

Organizer April Sharlow was encouraged after last years success at the expo.

We were unsure what our attendance would be but we guess between 500 and 700 people were there she said we were able to donate $5,000 to the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun.

Ms. Sharlow said the Pro-Equine Group is looking to match or exceed its 2016 donation. The decision to support the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund was a no-brainer, she said.

Cancer affects everybody, Ms. Sharlow said. We wanted to do something to give back to the community. We wanted to keep it local, so we chose the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund.

The expo features a broad range of demonstrations and showcases dozens of vendors. Demonstrations will begin at 10 a.m. and include displays by a veterinarian, an equine nutritionist, a farrier, demonstrations on starting young horses, roping, a hunter derby and horses over fences.

There will be demonstrations from professionals in the equine industry, highlighting on training programs for young stock, various disciplines as well as topics involving equine health, said Ms. Sharlow. Vendors will offer a great variety of shopping and informational booths, including tack shops, craft vendors and many other agribusineses.

There will also be several activities for children. Face painting, pony rides and a kids rodeo will keep young ones busy throughout the expo. Ms. Sharlow said there is something for everyone.

It is not equine specific. You do not have to be involved in horses to go and appreciate it, she said, We kind of like to draw in people who are maybe interested in learning about horses or the general public. The North Country Equine Expo is a unique event to the north country because of its broad range of horse-related topics, according to Ms Sharlow. There are different workshops and such where people will focus on one thing, but as far as a broad spectrum of disciplines and professions within the equine industry, I don't think we have anything quite like this up here, she said. Anyone interested in being a vendor or inquiring about sponsorship opportunities, are asked to contac Scott Loomis at 315-212-1696. or email proequinegroup15@gmail.com
